The elements in astrology are also called Triplicities and determine the fundamental nature and temperament of a sun sign which fall under it. The four elements of astrology are Fire, Earth, Air and Water and the relationship between the signs of the zodiac and the elements is based on an ancient Greek philosophy. Each of the 4 elements has certain characteristics which influences the signs. The element Earth is characterized by its solidity and strength, Fire by its warms and rage, Air as a life source, Water by its fluidity. With the advancement of astrology the ancient philosophers linked these elemental characteristics to the signs of the zodiac and observing how it made sense to relate a watery sign to more emotional sort. This was how the signs were classified according to their corresponding elements of astrology.

The first of the elements of astrology is Fire and its corresponding sun signs are Leo, Aries and Sagittarius. People under the Fire sign are known to be extroverts and gregarious and enjoy attention and fame. Their fiery nature is apparent in their social and professional lives. The next astrological element is Earth and its corresponding signs include Virgo, Taurus and Capricorn. Earth sign personalities are subtle, with a quite and calm nature. People under the Earth signs are more practical and rooted and there is a firmness of determination in them. The corresponding signs under the element Air are Gemini, Aquarius and Libra. Air sign personalities are carefree, relaxed and friendly and are less complex than the Earth signs. Water is one of the elements of astrology whose corresponding signs are Scorpio, Cancer and Pisces. The Water sign personalities are highly intelligent and passionate in every sphere of their lives. The compatibility of the various sun signs also depend on the elements of the astrology. While the elements Earth and Water are well suited to each others Fire and Water have a negative effect on each other. Earth receives its nourishment through Water and similarly Water would lose direction without Earth. In a Fire and Water relationship, the latter tends to put off the former. Therefore astrologers predict the compatibility of relationships through the elements which has a tremendous influence.

The elements of astrology determine the various aspects of live such as love, career and family of its corresponding signs. The presence of more Fire Signs in a person’s astrological chart may indicate a fiery, combustible nature and the absence of Earth Signs indicates someone who is not very grounded or practical. The presence of a combination of all of the elements in the astrological chart is inactive of a well-rounded personality.
