Job satisfaction is a very important aspect in one's life. If you are not happy in your present work atmosphere, you may suffer from withdrawal symptoms and general dissatisfaction with everything that life has to offer. Thus, job satisfaction should take priority in any working person's life. More so, if you are a woman trying to juggle between home and work and trying to achieve a work-life balance. Want to know about the warning signs of job dissatisfaction?
- You can start having doubts when you begin to dread Mondays, or just dread the idea of coming to work
- Can't wait for the weekend? Getting all excited on Fridays? Hmmm.. all the signs are there!
- Getting very bored at work? Well, well.. you know the reason now!
- Do you feel tired always or feel chronically fatigued even at the idea of going to work? You certainly are in need of a change of job!
- Have you begun avoiding your boss and do you dread attending office meetings? You know you are not interested any more!
- You have absolutely no sense of self-worth nor do you feel any enthusiasm for your job. Can't you recognise the signs?
- So you feel you are at the crossroads. You are getting nowhere in your job. Look for something else..Pronto!
- Taking out your work stress on everyone at home? You definitely need to do something else!
- Are you having doubts about your choice of a job? Maybe you took it up for want of something else! Start questioning your choice and you know that you feel you are in the wrong line!
- Stuck with a problem at work and not able to find solutions? You mind is no longer in your work. What you need is a total change!
All these listed above are telltale signs that you are either disillusioned with your job or that you merely need a change. Learn to recognise the signs early and save yourself a few wasted years. Your biggest mistake would be to ignore these warning signals. Bury your head in the sand like an ostrich and you will find yourself sucked into a downward career spiral from which you may never recover.
However, you may facilitate positive change by taking the trouble to introspect and analyse your career choice. Are you in the wrong career, or is it merely your boss who is your problem? Identify the cause before you take decisions. After all, the thorn might be the wrong boss and not the actual career choice! Maybe a counselor would be able to identify the real cause for your dissatisfaction.
Have you updated your resume recently? You may have added to your skills and earned a few laurels that may not be reflected in your original resume. Just updating your resume will prove to be a big confidence booster. Also, you will be ready for switching whenever the opportunity knocks, as you will know if your skills match the requirements. At the same time, be careful that it doesn't look like too many meaningless add-ons, in which case, tear up the old one and simply re-do it from the beginning. If you feel that it still lacks a professional touch, maybe a resume writer could help you out. A little professional polish will influence the right people and see you go places.
Has it been ages since you attended an interview? Maybe you are still stuck in your first job! It will do you a world of good if you can brush up your rusty interview skills. It will make you a more confident person, ready to take on any job. It maybe time for you to consult a career coach who will put you on the right track.
Job dissatisfaction is a sure indication of much-needed change. By investing in the appropriate job-search skills and necessary tools at the right time, you will find yourself in a position to change your job - and your life - for the better. Here's wishing you luck on your new journey!
