If you beat jet lag, you have more of holiday time. And you are in better shape to enjoy it.

  • If you do have an option, take a night flight. You can sleep through the night and will be fresh when you land. But if you sleep on a day flight, you will be unable to sleep at night when you get to the destination.

  • Always keep in mind the local time of your destination. Set your watch by that time zone. All through the flight, you will know what the time will be at your destination. Try to re-set your body clock. If you are going to arrive during the day, then it is better you get some sleep in-flight. If you are going to arrive at night, it is better you stay awake during the flight. Your body gets used to the local time almost immediately.

  • Avoid alcohol on flights. The pressurised cabin air tends to dehydrate your body. Consumption of alcohol in such surroundings will only intensify the dehydration, leaving you tired and weary.

  • It is advisable to drink as much water as you can. This not only combats the dehydration caused by pressurised air, but also flushes the toxins from your body.

  • It's important to move around every now and then. Visit the toilet once every couple of hours. Walk up and down the plane. Stretch yourself and do some arm swinging exercises. This is very important especially on long haul flights. Lack of movement causes tightening of joints and a stiff back. In some cases, it causes blood clot to form. This is no small calamity, as it could be fatal. So keep the blood circulating well. Even while you are seated, move your limbs around as much as possible.
