A virus in your computer? How did you get it? However the sad part now is the attempts by hackers to wreak havoc are becoming the Machiavellian kind.

You can fall victim by:

1.Opening or previewing an infected email
2.Surfing a website that's hosted by an infected server
3.Operating on a shared network where one or more PCs are infected

Here are a few tips for you to prevent your PC from crashing down:

Make sure your PC has good anti-virus software. Mcafee Virus Scan & Norton/Symantec Antivirus are both good 'search & destroy' virus checkers. If you're on a network check with your network administrator first. Scan your system regularly. You can set it to scan on a predetermined schedule or scan it in the background while you get on with your work.

Once you've installed your anti-virus software make sure it's up-to-date. Some anti-virus programs automatically link to the internet & add new detection codes whenever the software vendor discovers a new threat. You can keep yourself informed about new virus solutions by bookmarking your favourite virus alert center.
Try www.symantec.com/av/center/ or www.mcafee.com/anti.virus

If you use Microsoft Outlook for your email you'll need to visit the Microsoft website & download the Outlook 98 Security Patch or The Outlook 2000 Security Patch which requires the Office 2000 Service Release 1a. Microsoft also has a self-service web page where even the desperate can be brought back from the brink of total system collapse.
For all PC users self defense seems to be the best defence!
So let's protect us from the attack of the electronic germ.
