Reader

A lecturer in the senior scale with five years experience, holding a Ph.D. is eligible for the post of a reader (also known as Lecturer in the Selection Scale).

The reader has to be a person who has made a mark in the field, by way of contributions through research, publications, innovative methods of education and the design of new curricula and programmes, participation in refresher courses and having a consistently good performance appraisal report.

The remuneration could be between Rs.15, 000 - 25,000 a month.

Professor

A reader with a minimum of 5-8 years experience is eligible for the post of an associate professor or a professor. The role of a professor involves teaching the post graduate students. Experience in guiding for research at doctoral level and contributing to research at the national level are also the key result areas of a professor. As an erudite scholar, he should have made a significant contribution to his field.

The remuneration could be between Rs.20, 000 - 35,000 a month.

After college hours, professors are free to offer coaching and tuitions. They can also help in writing course material and providing instruction for competitive exams. Tests like SAT, TOEFL, GRE and GMAT lessons can also be taught to students who are aspiring to go abroad for higher studies.
