Law » Legal Transcription
It is imperative for lawyers who counsel to study the documentation between two or more concerned persons or organisations in order
to build up a stronger foundation for their cases. The trainees or the junior lawyers who assist their seniors generally perform
this task.
In the legal profession today, the main requirement is access to an indexed or coded database of existing records. Legal transcription is the most promising and low cost way of getting the necessary data through information technology.
In legal transcription the process involves -
(a) Scanning all the pages of the communication referred to above.
(b) Placing these images on a computer.
(c) Transferring these images to a CD - ROM which is sent to a service organisation which does the coding or indexing.
Legal transcriptionists or put simply, Data conversion technicians are people who capture from the images, certain information required by the lawyers; e.g. who wrote on what subject to whom and on what date.
Once this coded format reaches the lawyers they can access, meaningfully, any desired document in the collection pertaining to the specific legal case.
Presently, the largest requirement for such transcription jobs, comes from USA based lawyers. And, legal transcriptions are done primarily in Mexico, Philippines and India in addition to the USA.
A graduate familiar with English and the computer keyboard, can, within 6-8 weeks of quality training, meet the job requirements of a Data Conversion Technician.
