Journalism involves communicating information to the reader as speedily and effectively as possible. This is an exciting profession because it involves a lot of travelling, meeting people, and of course one`s name in print.
Qualifications: Flair for writing, a good command of the language, an active interest in people, ideas, and events, a good memory and initiative. Also necessary is a sense of objectivity and fairness in reporting, and the willingness to keep long hours. Knowledge of advanced technologies such as desktop publishing help journalists to further specialise in their area of interest.
Scope: Opportunities in in-house journals of private organisations and public sector undertakings, newspapers, agencies and magazines, and in services such as editing, composing, typesetting, layout and design, production and printing, or in the setting up of a news syndicate.
