This is a very lucrative career. Company secretaries are the legal representatives or principal officers of companies. Companies having a paid up capital of Rs.50 lakh or more are statutorily required to have a full time company secretary, who must be a member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. The work of a Company Secretary includes formal secretarial duties and administration of company business. The role and duty vary according to the size of the company. The job is largely office-based.

Qualifications: Skill and expertise in organisation, law and finance.

Opportunities: Exist in business houses, firms, industries and insurance companies. By virtue of his/her academic background, professional expertise, initiative and drive, a company secretary can become a member of the board or the governing BODY of any Organisations, Dept. of Public Enterprise, Government, Stock Exchange, Nationalised Banks, etc. He/she can also be self-employed as share transfer agents, stockbrokers or consultants to a company for registering, presenting and verifying documents.
