Fashion designers can start out as apprentices under established designers. Large retail companies also recruit designers.

A combination of degree/diploma in fashion designing and marketing degree/ merchandising experience offers very good growth prospects. One can branch off into independent designing after a year.

Industrial Design

Industrial Design is gaining a lot of importance these days. With more MNCs entering the fray, the concept of design has become very important. Industrial Design includes design of products, working environment, operations and processes.
Designers can also exhibit their work in exhibitions, promotional campaigns, retail and point of purchase designs.
Companies either have in-house designers or outsource.

How do you become one?

A master's in industrial design from IIT Mumbai is the most prestigious one. Other Institutes offering design courses are NID, IIT Delhi, and IISc Bangalore. These are normally two or three year courses.

Salary

Entry Level Salary is around Rs. 10,000 a month.

Sales

Sales is the main link that connects an organization with its customers. The sales person plays a key role in implementing his company's goals. Apart from the regular selling job, network marketing is gaining a lot of popularity these days. It is specially suited for ladies as it is a flexi time job. Network marketing is quite simply marketing done through networking.

How do you become one?

Soft qualities, including excellent communication skills, negotiation skills, interpersonal skills, patience, perseverance and pleasant disposition could help. Dedication, hardwork, and motivation, are the key qualities of a salesman.

Salary

Rs 6,000 a month in the beginning. Incentives are mainly performance based.
