Brinjal plant grows up to 1.5 m high and is considered as an herb because it does not have woody stem. Fruits are either round or long and have different colors according to the variety. Brinjal is found in various colors such as purple, black, white and many more.
Brinjal fruit is considered as a vegetable and is cooked in various ways. The cut fruits are soaked in salted and cold water to remove its mild bitterness and to avoid discoloration. All parts of brinjal can be used in Chinese medicines to stop intestinal bleeding. The fruit of brinjal plant is used for the cure of mushroom poisoning. The roots of Brinjal plants can be used in the treatment of ulcer. The roots of brinjal are crushed and applied inside the nostrils for the treatment of ulcer. People in Indochina use parts of brinjal plants as purgative.
