Honey is said to be a natural sweetener. But there is a little disadvantage of honey. Botulism is a rare disease but a serious illness that can be caused by toxins produced by CLOSTRIDIUM BOTULINUM, which is present in honey. There are various types of botulism. There is one type that affects infants. It is better not to provide honey to infants and babies below 2 years of age. Excess consumption of honey increases sugar level and is not good for diabetic patients. Sometimes honey can also cause allergy due to the presence of pollen grains. One must know the level if honey he/she must intake. Though there are benefits of taking honey still the risk of disadvantages cannot be overlooked. Can someone provide more specific details or if someone know of any other problems caused by over-consumption of honey?

We have all loved eating honey at some or the other point in our life. It has been a darling of millions and has been referred to as the liquid gold in the ancient books. Most of the time people consume it without any fear of side effects or any kind of disadvantage due to daily consumption. Its curative powers have been extolled in almost every literature, as it is supposed to cure a number of diseases and has been suggested as a replacement to those suffering from diabetes. I have always taken all sorts of home remedies mixed with honey as it is one thing that makes all sorts of unpalatable substances agreeable. I guess the only case where you may have to worry is if your children are consuming more than ten tablespoons in any shape. As that can cause gastric problems and may result in cramps, bloating or diarrhea. It may affect the small intestines ability to absorb nutrients till the honey is out of your system and over a long term it can become a permanent problem. But, otherwise you really dont have anything to worry about. Do check out this link for further reference http://www.livestrong.com/article/410468-side-effects-of-eating-too-much-honey/
