Bhagat Singh was a young revolutionary who has made a place of respect and admiration in the hearts of India. He is called “Shaheed” Bhagat Singh with “Shaheed” meaning martyr for he laid down his life at the young age of 23 for the freedom of our country. Bhagat Singh was born into a Sikh family and was involved in the freedom struggle right from a very young age because his family was involved in revolutionary activities against the British Raj. He was associated with a number of revolutionary organizations and became the leader of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. He came into the eyes of the British when he murdered British officers John Saunders to avenge Lala Lajpat Rai’s death. He surrendered to the British and observed a 116 day fast in jail. He was sentenced to death. I wonder where such passion and patriotism gone. Can our present politicians show such love for our country?
