The concept of brand ambassadors confuses me. Why does any brand need a brand ambassador? You switch on the TV and you can see some celebrity or the other prancing around on the screen trying to sell you some product. The funny part is that they endorse the product with such conviction that many people actually buy the products and that too just because their favourite actor claims that the product is good and he personally uses it. But is this true and fair? Do stars actually use the products that they sell on TV? And is it fair on the part of these brands to exploit our adulation for these stars and tempt us into buying things we don’t really need? You can see Sachin Tendulkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan recommending products ranging from health drinks to slippers. They are called the top brand ambassadors in the advertising world and are hot favorites among brands when it comes to endorsement. But, really, do you think Amitabh Bachchan has Maggi at home when he is hungry or Salman Khan buys Wheel to get his clothes washed?
