Rangoli designs are pretty to look at and are an adornement to the place they are drawn in. They make more meaning and help audiences relate to them better when they are based on a theme. You could base your rangoli on a number of themes depending on the occassion. For example, for Diwali you could base your rangoli on Rama and Sita, or a green planet to create awareness on global warming or tigers for creating awareness on save tigers. You will have to use your imagination and perception about a certain topic to decide the theme and your comfort in drawing the design., If you are very good at drawing then you can pick a more elaborate design, but if you think you are not comfortable with a detailed picture, pick something that is simple and easy to draw.
