Meera Bai was indeed a Rajput princess who was madly in love with Lord Krishna. It is said that she believed that she was a reborn Gopi called Lalita. According to mythology, in her childhood Meera had witnessed a marriage procession and had asked her mother who her husband was. Her mother took her to an idol of Lord Krishna and said that He was her husband. Meera spent all her life in Lord Krishna’s devotion. She was married off at the age of 16 but she was not happy as she considered Lord Krishna her husband. She soon left her husband’s house and went to Chittor. She spent some part of her life there. Initially, her devotion was a private thing but later on she wandered around singing and dancing in praise of Lord Krishna. It is believed that Meera disappeared into an idol of Lord Krishna in Dwarka before a whole set of onlookers. Any there more interesting facts about Meera Bai, anyone?
