My grandmother keeps asking me to apply amla, reetha and shikakai in my hair. I know these are natural ingredients and can only do good to my hair, but I would like to know what are the benefits of these products and how they help our hair look beautiful. What are the elements in these and how can be used for the hair. I know amla is edible and does consumption of these help in the hair the same way too?

Amla Reetha and Shikakai have long been known for their beneficial effect on our hair. If you think of it you will realize that the graying hair and the hair fall problems were not that common in the days when our mothers used home remedies like these. Truth is that the combination of these three ingredients creates a natural shampoo which provides a chemical free cleaning and conditioning for the hair. They are also good for your scalp and keep it free of any kind of eruptions or dandruff. They allow the skin to retain its natural oil while your normal shampoos tend to rob the scalp of its natural oil. Amla, Reetha and Shikakai also provide a stimulating and cooking effect to the brain and induce sound sleep. Most people who use or have used this concoction for a long period have lustrous and luxuriant naturally black hair. The word Shikakai actually means Fruit for the Hair.

We may find the Punjabis to be a loud and boisterous lot but their food wins hands down. The world has learnt to appreciate Punjabi Paranthas and Daal Makhani, not to forget the Punjabi Chicken and Mutton curries. One good source for a Gujarati to get Punjabi recipes would be Tarla Dalals cook book titled Punjabi Subzis. Since Tarla is a Gujarati you will find it easier to follow her methods. You can find the details on the following link: http://www.tarladalal.com/Punjabi-Subzis-Gujarati-by-Tarla-Dalal-282b

You can also try this link which takes you to the videos of all sorts of cooking recipes in Gujarati: http://deshgujarat.com/gujarati-recipes-explained-in-gujarati-a-complete-database/. Hope this will give you enough to learn and experiment on.

Yes you can add Dana Methi too!!

Falling hair is a condition that affects both men and women. If left unattended, this condition can worsen and result in permanent hair loss leading to baldness. The best possible home remedy to treat hair loss is to apply the paste of soaked fenugreek seeds (Dana methi), shikakai powder, reetha powder, amla powder, dried lemon or lime peels, and two eggs on  the hair and scalp leave it on for about 20 minutes.
