Seemantham is an important traditional ritual in Karnataka. It is carried out in the eighth month of pregnancy and is observed to mark the birth of a child. Seemantha means the parting of the hair. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi resides here. The ceremony is held during the eighth month of pregnancy of a women and her kum kum or sindoor is applied in the parting to propitiate Goddess Lakshmi. While earlier Seemantham was held during each time a child was born, nowadays it is restricted to the birth of the first child only. During the ceremony, many traditional songs are sung. Can someone suggest a few songs that can be played during Seemantham? |
