We Indians received independence on August 15^th, 1947, but this freedom is a result of tireless efforts by our freedom fighters. Names like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru led the crusade against British rule in India. But instead of bloodshed, they resorted to ‘ahimsa’ or non-violence. Men like Subhash Chandra Bose were real freedom fighters, who valiantly fought against the British and mobilized people to overthrow the tyranny of British Empire. Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were the martyrs, who died smilingly for the cause of independence. Lal Bahadur Shashtri, Sarder Vallabhbhai Patel and Sarojini Naidu are the freedom fighters who have immortalized themselves by working for the nation. In the days when women were supposed to be locked behind the doors, wrapped in veils, Rani Laxmibai Bai took swords and fought against the British Raj.
