In order to cut a fabric for making a sari blouse, first one needs to cut the required pattern on paper. Start by taking the measurements. The most important here is the length of the blouse. Then we come to the length of arms, girth of arms, width of shoulders, waist size and chest size. Keeping in mind the required cut on front and back, draw a pattern on a brown sheet of paper. To cut a draft/pattern, only one side of the design needs to be drawn. Cut the patterns and place it on the fabric. Three patterns will be made here – the front, the back and the sleeves.
Place the pattern on blouse fabric and draw an outline using a fabric chalk. Remember to keep the fabric neatly ironed. There should not be any creases. Now, with a steady hand, run your scissor through the fabric on the drawn lines. Keep the fabric straight and ensure neatness in your cutting.
In the end, you will have six cut pieces of fabric; two comprising the front of blouse, two that will make the back and two that will be made into sleeves. Cutting is as important as stitching the garment, and therein, you have to practice a lot to bring about perfection.
The method for cutting a choli cut blouse is slightly different, though I am not quite sure what exact changes have to be made there. |
