Shayari is a part of Indian culture for a long time. During the age of Maharajas there were shayars who used to live in the court of the king to entertain the kings and their guests. There are many shayaris which are written to entertain special guests during formal parties. The tradition of reciting shers to formal guests is still prevalent in different parts of the country and many people still like to entertain their guests by reciting shers in their honors. Do you entertain your guests by reciting shayris?

But, it sounds to be an interesting tradition, though really odd for current times. As you said, there are people who carry on the tradtion. Would like to know more on that.

I really love this form of welcome because no matter how good a welcome is in English it somehow lacks the music and rhythm of our good old shayarana andaaz. Somehow the emotions dont flow and present themselves or touch the heart the way they do with Sher o shayari. So far as I am concerned they are my first preference for any kind of emotional expression and I am offering you some of my favourite lines. I suggest that you begin with the first one and then chose the rest as per your liking.

Wo mauth bhe bari suhani hogi, jo aapke pyar me aani hogi. Ye dua hai khuda se ke pehlay ham jayen kyonki welcome ke rasm bhi to nibhani hogi

Aap aaye hamare ghar khuda ki kudrat hai Kabhi hum unko kabhi apne ghar ko dekhte hain.

Jaise phoolon ko khushbu chahiye mehakne k liye,Parindo ko awaaz chahiye chehekne ki liye , isi tarah chahiye humen, Aapki "DOSTI" muskurake jeene k liye...

Ujare Chaman Dost hamare ... Din Mai bhi Gintahe tare... Family bhi "Fool to Pagal" hai sare...
Par jo bhi ho Yaaroo...Aap log lagtahe humko Bohot Pyare!!
