Feeling drowsy at office?

A latest study reveals that ninety three per cent Indians are sleep deprived and only take eight hours of compulsory sleep necessary for good health. Astonishingly, 11 per cent actually start snoozing at their workplace when tired.

As per the study supported by Philips Electronics India Limited, eleven percent Indians took short vacation from work due to sleep deficiency.

The study was carried by Nielsen Company in November 2009 and examined 5,600 participants in the age group of 35-65 from around 25 cities in urban India with a populace of more than five lakhs.

Fifty eight per cent of the participants believed that their work was getting affected because of lack of sufficient sleep while 11 per cent have confessed of falling asleep at workplace.

Seventy four percent have admitted of waking up around one to three times during their sleep. The purposes vary from responding to nature call (90 per cent), pressure at workplace (15 per cent) and commotion outside the house (10 per cent).

Sixty two per cent of the examined participants exhibited greater chances of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) which a situation characterized by frequent termination of inhalation during sleep. This condition can probably result in heart ailments and exacerbate heart failure.
