As per a latest study, consuming excess sugar-enhanced cola per week before pregnancy may boost chances of developing gestational diabetes.

LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans School of Public Health, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), Harvard School of Public Health, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School are the institutes which conducted this research work extensively.

The team examined a set of 13,475 women. Around 860 gestational diabetes cases were recognized after 10 years of summarizing.

Post modification of recognized risk factors for gestational diabetes incorporating age, family history of diabetes, uniformity, physical activity, smoking habit, sugar-enhanced beverage consumption, alcohol consumption and Body Mass Index before pregnancy revealed that consumption of sugar-enhanced cola was completely related with the possibility of gestational diabetes. Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans School of Public Health, claimed that women who consumed 5 sugary drinks or more per week has 22 percent higher chances of developing gestational diabetes that the women who drank less than 1 sugar-enhanced beverage a month.
