I am in real deep trouble! I have got into a major misunderstanding with my friend, who has recently lost her mom. I know she was very close to her mom and I feel bad for her, but in order to distract her mind I try to talk of unrelated things. She has misunderstood this as a lack of concern and lashed out at me recently saying I don`t care about her or her loss. How can I explain things to her? I only tried to cheer her up by not crying and not talking about the sad past. I am being accused of not being a true friend. What should I do? -Suruchi |

Explain to your friend as early as possible that you had no intention of disrespecting her grief. You only could not bear to see her so depressed. Sometimes you have to let people grieve over a lost one and then they get out of it. People cannot be cheerful all the time. |

We particularly have to be careful with people with whom we interact every day. We take them for granted and feel that they will understand us, no matter what we do. Remember that in spite of the closeness, there is always a divide and we have to respect that.

Try to explain things thru a common friend. If you try to talk to her directly, she may think that u r doing drama.. Take a help of a common friend or your family elders to make fer understand your care and affection. Wait.... Time heals everything |

Try and explain your behaviour to her once, if she doesn't understand, leave her alone for sometime. Once she gets over her mother's death, she'll get the clarity to understand your side. Just stay around her. Things will get better soon. |
