The Cecil of Simla is, how do I put it? Hmm, how about the equivalent of the Carlyle at Manhattan? As much a part of the Simla landscape as the Mall?

The Cecil

The Cecil is the crown in the Oberoi Group of Hotels.

The Cecil only recently reopened in 1997 after a 12-year renovation. But is was worth every last paise to the Oberoi group because in 1924, exactly 100 years after the British made Simla their summer capital, Rai Bahadur Singh, founder of the group, started his career as a clerk at The Cecil!

Situated at one end of the Mall, the hotel spells luxurious opulence. Parquet flooring and the liberal use of wood in the interiors make it warm, cosy but elegant. The hotel has 71 rooms, eight suites, a health spa, heated indoor-swimming pool, fully equipped gymnasium, billiards room, and an activity centre for children.
