One of the greatest spoilsports during a holiday is motion sickness. Especially when holidaying on package tours. One has to see half a continent in seven days. So, one can't really set themselves a comfortable pace of travel.
Generally speaking, people prone to motion sickness feel dizzy; there is a drop in the blood sugar level, accompanied by a vomiting sensation. There is no known cure for this particular condition. However there are a number of ways to prevent it. -
Motion sickness has a direct relation to the position in which the person is seated when travelling. If he is sitting in a position where the body sees and feels different motions, it is likely to aggravate his feeling of nausea and dizziness. So, it is better that he chooses a position that allows him to see and feel a similar motion.
When travelling by car it is best to sit in the front seat.
For those who get sick while travelling in a boat or ship, the middle of the boat or ship is the most suitable position as it rolls the least here.
A window seat near the wings of the aeroplane will help. - Do not look out of the windows when travelling by car. It is better to look straight ahead.
- Do not travel long distances at a stretch. Take frequent breaks. This might sound a little impractical, but it is worth a try.
- Try and relax. Refresh yourself with a moist towel.
- Do not travel on an empty stomach. Again, do not eat too much while travelling.
- Chewing gum and sucking sweets help to reduce the feeling of nausea.
- Using earplugs during air travel will help.
- Acupressure anti-sickness bands claim to help control motion sickness. You can try using them.
- Keeping certain anti sickness medicines handy is a good idea.
Bon Voyage!
