Chancroid – This is one of the most painful of the ulcers that occur in the genital area and also one of the most dangerous as it can be a major factor for the transmission of HIV infection. The occurrence is first visible on the penis and vulva and after a period of three to ten days incubation time, the ulcer grows, accompanied by the swelling as well as tenderness in the glands of groin area. An injection of ceftriaxone, or oral dosage of azithromycin, medication such as ciprofloxacin, erythromycin and a few others are very effective for the treatment of this type of genital ulcer.

Syphilis – Another type of genital ulcer and quite well known form of STD, this has been in existence in various parts of the globe for quite a few centuries. This type of ulcer is on most occasions not painful at all as it is caused by the bacterium spirochete, which is famous for producing painless ulcers otherwise known as chancre. The disease develops in three different stages, with an incubation period of ten to ninety days. This type of ulcer is extremely communicable and in the ulcer is located on the exposed parts of the genital area, and then protective barriers such as condoms too turn out to be ineffective in preventing the spread of the disease. If the ulcer, on the other hand is found in the mouth, then the disease might get transmitted during the time of kissing. There are various medications such as Benzathine penicillin injection, Benzathine penicillin G injection and Aqueous crystalline penicillin G which, when given at various stages, can help in the complete cure of the disease. Genital Herpes – This is primarily caused by virus, as opposed to the case of the other genital ulcers and the name of the virus is simplex virus or HSV. It is transmitted through the contact of mucous lining of the mouth, genital skin or vagina. The virus makes way through the nerves of those affected and travel to the root in the spine area, where it makes permanent place for itself. Redness of skin, blisters, stress and various types of infections are the common symptoms of this type of genital ulcer. Medications with the name of acyclovir, famciclovir and valacyclovir taken in various quantities can help cure it.
