Blankets and quilts are what give you warmness and comfort during winters but the most essential of all is maintaining them. As winters are here, you must have pulled out all your blankets and quilts. Now the next thing that might be raising your nerves is their maintenance and cleaning. Blankets, if not cleaned properly may develop bobbins, smells damp and look bad and to prevent that you should find ways to maintain and care them. While purchasing blankets, make sure that they are easily washable. There are some ways suggested below that will help in maintaining your blankets:

  • As most of the blankets are washable, if you're washing it in a machine, make sure it fits into it. While you put the blanket in a washing machine, make sure that there remains enough space for cleaning, or it will not get washed properly.
  • The water that you use for washing the blankets should not be hot. Use cold water for cleaning your blankets as this will keep them in a good condition. Treat the spots and stains with a good detergent before washing the blanket. Use a good detergent for proper cleaning.
  • Don't dry your blankets for long hours in sunny days. Excessive exposure to sunlight may fade them and other than that they can lose color so dry them in shade. Sunlight may affect the fibers badly due to which the blankets may shrink so avoid drying them in a bright sun. For effective drying, keep the blankets in a medium heated dryer and then let it dry in open.
  • As blankets take long time to dry, keeping them in shade may develop a damping smell. To prevent that use a fabric conditioner with a nice fragrance after washing. Don't wash blankets frequently.
  • Dust is a common problem with blankets as woolen clothes catch dust quite fast. Vacuum cleaning is the best way to keep your blankets dust free. Keep naphthalene balls with blankets to remove the germs that might develop with time.
  • Dry your hands and feet properly before escaping in your blanket. Don't touch your blanket with wet and unclean hands as it will lead to stains. After using them, keep them at a dust free place.
  • In case your blankets are too large and you find it difficult to wash, put them off for dry clean. You can get your blankets dry-cleaned in the start and end of the winter season.
