It's true that women represent more than half of the world's population, but their majority in political assemblies and electorates is quite low. India is a male-dominated country where women have always been treated as inferior to them. Most of the women are dependent on males either father, brother, husband, or a son for various things. Though the situation of women has improved at a faster pace, and many of the women have become independent, but if we talk of political representation, the situation is overwhelming. The political system of India accounts less than 10% women even today.

We always feel that quota system or reservation is not good for our country but women reservation in politics is a good approach to increase the number of  females in this arena. Our government has proposed a quota for women in the local government system to fuel an excitement among women to join politics and removing the gender disparity. Many women who joined politics reports that they are either given a ticket for the seat which does not hold significance for the party or for a seat where male dominance from other parties exists. In total, in spite of being into politics these female members are non-existent as they have no role in deciding the strategies of elections and other important activities.

Political reservation is the only way to provide equal opportunities to women that will result in women empowerment. Some female politicians have set an example for others by achieving some great milestones during their political tenure. All these active ladies show that women are equally powerful as man, and they can do whatever they want. Women leaders of today lay down a road map for future. The government of India has proposed this political reservation for women so that these women leaders can understand the problems of the rural women and help them to participate in politics. This will improve the living standard of women in rural areas and empower the local women. Women leaders can act as a wave of spreading awareness about the rights and powers of a female.

There has been a significant increase in the number of women joining the constituencies and village panchayats. They are actively participating in politics and representing parties and states at a larger scale. Political reservation for women has been strongly promoted by the government as it is believed that this system will have a great impact on women centric issues. Reservation of a seat is a consistent and logical rule been enforced by government for both women empowerment and overall development.

The objective of women reservation is to improve the visibility and participation of women in all sectors of this country that will empower the local women.
