Fasting, considered as an important customary observance in almost all religions, have a broad range of benefits. Other than a religious act of spiritualism, it has major health benefits. Fasting has been found to have great advantages in maintaining the mental and emotional balance of human beings. Fasting helps us in controlling the urge to eat and keeping our body in discipline for the same. Most of you fast to establish a connection with god and showing your commitment to the almighty but unknowingly you are gaining many other benefits as well. Everyone has its own reason for fasting but whatever be the reason is, one can't deny the benefits:

  • Fasting allows our system to rest from the regular onslaught of food stuffs. Digestive system needs enough energy to metabolize the eaten food stuffs and during fasting you allow various systems to relax and rehabilitate. Thus the free energy during fasting can be used for healing and recuperation, detox and repair cells, tissues and organs.  
  • Fasting cleanses the body, clears thoughts, and refreshes the spirit. As fasting clears the mind, there is a vast improvement in focus and clarity. There are some emotional benefits related to fasting. If you're feeling sad or low, fasting can divert your attention.

Fasting should be done with proper consultation. It should not be started on your own as every body has different requirement.
