The young generation of India is following western culture blindly, whether it is related to lifestyle, dressing, eating habits and working.
Indian politicians and older generations have been regularly criticizing the Indian youth for following the western culture. Its impact has become so powerful that teens get their style and fashion tips adopted from western culture. Indian culture is so rich in its heritage and values that one need not to follow any other culture. India is known for its values. Today most of the youngsters follow western clothes as they make them feel cool. Western dresses, western thinking, and western customs have been adopted by all of us in one way or the other. As the world moves closer together through increased globalization, migration, and technological advancement human beings are beginning to question the role of culture within all aspects of human existence.
The question arises that should we follow western culture? No one can give the exact answer to this as everyone is under its impact in one or the other way. It's true that western culture has some positivity which we can't ignore but along with that there are certain negatives, which are effecting our future generations. Western culture had already made its presence in Metro’s & now slowly heading towards other parts of India. Western culture is based more on materialistic factors whereas our culture has a spiritual base.
We can now see the live examples of impact of western cultures on us through the growing culture of nuclear families, no respect for elders, and expressing ourselves openly. No doubt, today everyone wants to live away from their family as living together affect their privacy. No body now bother about others and only cares about himself which is totally contradictory to our Indian culture which teaches to be a part of each other Joy’s and Sorrows, to celebrate the moments together, and share the grief together. This is how our Indian culture is vanishing, and western culture has become more prominent.
Relations are at stake these days as easy options are available due to modernization. The number of divorces in India is increasing abruptly with each passing year. Today respect and love has been replaced by money and satisfaction. People like to live alone. Family, respect, values, and tradition have become words of past. Children are far away from their forefather's love, care, and affection.
There is no harm in adopting good things from any culture but to transform ourselves completely into westerns does not make sense. We should not forget, for what we are known, our values. You certainly need to adopt some changes in yourself as time demands them but to show that you only believe in western culture is nothing but a stupid act. We can always learn from the western culture the qualities of being self independent, versatile, and a good worker. It makes us feel proud but to forget our values and traditions is a sad thing. Happiness and prosperity are taken as a matter of money now which upsets our Indian culture.
European countries are following our customs to get true life partners and peace, and we are ignoring those values just to keep ourselves updated. We often predict western culture to be a way to remain ahead of time, but it is not like that. We are in a dreaming world where we are losing our values and culture to adopt something which we are not made for. Indian culture is so diversified and rich in itself that adopting some other culture does not make sense. We really need to think about it seriously and act accordingly so that we can keep our rituals and values alive, which actually represents India.
