  • If you actually want to stroll down the corridor because you feel bored or restless, carry a document in your hand. People will assume that you are going for a meeting or a discussion.
  • Make sure your table is always cluttered. A clean desk gives the impression of someone who has no work to do.
  • Never have a document ready. Pretend that you have to rummage through tons of papers to locate it because that is the amount of work you have.
  • If you have voice mail, use it. Screen your calls so that you understand which of your callers wants you to do some work.
  • Respond to these calls when you know that the person will be away at lunch. That way, you avoid doing the work!
  • Never erase any of your voice mails because then callers will hear the message, “This mailbox is full!" For many people, this is an indication that you are a hard worker and are constantly in demand!
