For some reason, your child decides on having a turtle as a pet. You know that they are not as cuddly as puppies or cute....but your child is adamant. How do you even go around choosing a turtle?

• The turtle looks the same, but there are different kinds of turtles and they need to live in different kinds of places.
• Some need to live outdoors and some, indoors.
• Each kind of turtle lives on a different kind of diet.
• Visit a pet shop and talk to the owner about the kind of turtle it is.
• Ask about its food habits and see whether you have time for this.
• Log onto the net and check how safe these animals are.
• Some turtles eat only plants; others eat a variety of things.
• Box turtles are very choosy eaters and if you don't have the time to figure out what kind of diet your turtle likes best, then things become difficult.
• Find out also whether the turtle will snap at your child.
• It is easy to train a dog, but not so a turtle.
