Managing a Team You're a good manager, but you want to become a better one. Here are some tips on how to develop yourself and your team.

  • Encourage your team to develop new technical skills. If budget is a constraint, expose your team to free in-house training.
  • Make sure that more than one person is equipped to handle a particular job. This way there will be no delay if a member of the team goes on leave.
  • Understand what each member of your team is doing. You will learn to respect them for the work they are doing.
  • Allow people in the team to do knowledge-sharing so that people jump in and help out when required.
  • Provide feedback to your team constantly so that they know where to improve.
  • If a job requires high priority, let your members know; don’t expect them to guess.
  • Learn to manage your projects well by delegating some of the work and keeping tabs on these leaders.

At all times, communicate. That is the path to success.
