A stroke happens when blood is suddenly stopped from reaching the brain. When blood does not reach the brain the several ingredients oxygen and other nutrients are also stopped from reaching the brain. Thus the important ingredients are not delivered. The blood flow to the brain can be hampered due to various reasons. It may happen when the artery of the brain is somehow ruptured or is blocked. A person can experience stroke due to various reasons. Some of the reasons of stroke are hardening of arteries and clogging of arteries. A person who has high blood pressure and is suffering from diseases such as diabetes, can suffer from stroke.

Elderly people tend to suffer from stoke than other normal and healthy person. Various drugs such as amphetamines and cocaine can also cause stroke. Some common symptoms of stroke are drooping of eyelids, altered hearing, taste, vision or smell, balance problems, altered heart rate, breathing problem, weakness, memory loss and others. Apraxia of speech is also known as dyspraxia or verbal apraxia. It is a speech disorder and the person who is experiencing this abnormality is unable to say or convey his or her message correctly. Apraxia of speech can be divided into two types – developmental apraxia and acquired apraxia.

Developmental apraxia of speech or DAS mainly occurs to children. This abnormality can be present from the time of birth. This type of abnormality is mostly found in boys than in girls. The boys tend to suffer from from this abnormality than girls. This abnormality is also known by other names such as childhood apraxia of speech, developmental verbal dyspraxia, articulatory apraxia and developmental verbal apraxia. The causes of this type of abnormality is not known. According to some scientists this disorder is related to the development of overall language of the child.

Acquired apraxia of speech can happen to anyone. It mainly affects adults. This type of disorder affects those parts of the brain which is involved with speaking and speech abilities. A person can experience this abnormality when he or she is suffering from stroke. This disorder may also result due to various other factors which include tumor, head injury and diseases which affects the brain. The central nervous system is some how hampered and thus the person finds it difficult to speak.

This disorder can be diagnosed by professionals who are referred as speech-language pathologists. The main work of these professionals is to treat this abnormality. The professionals ask the patient to perform some specific speech task which may include repetition of certain words.

Apraxia of speech can be treated by the professionals. The speech language therapist can help the children to discard this abnormality. It is also seen that people who suffer from this abnormality is able to recover from it without much help from others. This type of recovery is referred as spontaneous recovery.
