Self-care tips for Oily Skin

Your skin plays a crucial part in your looks. Everyone wants to have a glowing and problem-free skin but as all of us have different skin types, each skin type has its own challenges. Oily skin is characterized by visibly oily surface, large pores, a tendency to break out, feels greasy, etc and one has to take extra care of oily skin. Those who have oily skin usually have skin problems such as pimples, blackheads, etc quite more as compared to those with a dry or a normal skin and it becomes hard to manage so many skin problems at a time. Teenagers with oily skin are worst suffered by skin problems such as acne and pimples as oily skin attracts more dirt and dust.
Problems associated with oily skin:
Some amount of oil or sebum is needed to prevent skin dryness and to keep it hydrated but when oil glands produce more oil and sebum than required, it results in oily skin. Those with oily skin suffer from many unusual problems and it becomes hard to maintain a problem-free skin. Some common problems associated with oily skin are:
       
  • Acne and pimples come regularly to those with an oily skin and some leave scars behind. As these scars affect the overall look of an individual, one may find it difficult to deal with them. Pimples and acne take time to heal and are painful.
  •    
  • Skin pores becomes enlarged in case of oily skin that tends to increase the chances of a bacterial infection.
  •    
  • Excessive oil production may result in skin darkening.
  •    
  • Blackheads and whiteheads are common problems associated with oily skin.


Tips to take care of oily skin:

Oily skin needs more care and protection as compared to normal skin types and one should take proper care to reduce the complications. Some self-care tips that would reduce your skin problems to a large extent are:
       
  • Wash your face twice daily with a gentle, foaming cleanser to remove the excess dirt and oil. Make sure that you do not wash your face frequently as it could result in dryness.
  •    
  • Use an astringent or acne-fighting cream to prevent the skin breakout conditions such as pimples and acne. An astringent without alcohol should be used once a day to strip off the excess oil from your skin surface.
  •    
  • If after washing your face your skin becomes dry due to added effects of acne-fighting cream, you should apply a moisturizer. Use a gentle moisturizer and avoid using moisturizers with cocoa butter and mineral oils as these moisturizers would only increase the skin greasiness. To prevent clogging of pores, use moisturizers that are non-comedogenic.
  •    
  • Eat a healthy food low on oils and fats to prevent skin complications. Greasy and processed food should be avoided by those with an oily skin.
  •    
  • Maintain the normal fluid balance of your body by drinking enough water and other essential fluids as it helps in hydrating the skin thus reducing complexities.
  •    
  • Wear a protective sunscreen with a strong SPF whenever you step outside in the sun.
