Skin diseases have always been common among human beings as well as other species. Time to time we face the requirement of medicines for curing minor as well as major skin diseases. If we check out the medical books we would come across hundreds of skin diseases, some of which are Boil, Aquagenic Pruritus, Acne, Jock Itch, Hidradenitis Suppurativa, Skin Cancer, Tinea Capitis, Photoallergy, Nummular Dermatitis and so forth. The medicinal branch which works for the cure of skin diseases and its appendages is known as dermatology. For any sort of skin disease one should straightaway head for a physicians who`s a specialist in dermatology.
The Aquagenic pruritus is a typical kind of skin disease which is generally caused due to the contact of skin with water at any temperature. Name of this disease is derived from a Latin word called Aquagenic which means water-induced and the term Pruritus means implies itch. One cannot find any kind of sign or symptom over the skin when a person undergoes this skin disease. Intense itching is observed in a patient, without any disorder or changes in the skin. No health deterioration is caused by this disease. Aquagenic pruritus basically happens when a person comes in contact with water or mere humid air. Sometimes this problem might also arise due to sweat or blowing air. Observations show that this prickling-like itching can persist in a patient for almost an hour or even longer, depending on the severeness. This skin disease might appear in both the gender and in all age groups.
However, as per studies it has come to notice that these are common among men who are in their middle ages. This skin disease, Aquagenic pruritus might as well lead to the primary stage of Polycythemia or Polycythemia Vera. This condition is caused by the sudden increase in red blood cells in a person`s body, which further leads to a number of serious problems. Generally this is this problem occurs after a hot bath. Aquagenic pruritus is normally not taken very lightly by the patients because of a number of restrictions cased by this disease, such as bathing and sometimes this also causes depression. This disease has been observed in a large number of patients across the world and it`s advisable to contact a dermatologist as soon as one starts suffering from this. It`s generally unrecognized and hence it requires immediate treatment, before it is misdiagnosed.
Treatment should start from the primary stage of Aquagenic pruritus by applying capsaicin cream on the affected areas. Later one should visit a clinic or a hospital for filtered Ultraviolet-B Phototherapy. Taking help of tanning beds can also be of great help; however, too much exposure to UV Spectrum might also lead to skin cancer. After properly drying-off the affected areas after a bath one can also apply lanolin-free Aqueous cream. Other creams like Cimetidine and Claritin, known for blocking H1 and H2 are also good treatments for Aquagenic pruritus. These symptoms can be avoided by using cotton clothes and bedding and by being very cautious and using common sense while bathing.
