The Olympic Games are a celebration of peace in the world, both in the world of sports and in the world of politics. During the Olympic Games, the UN General Assembly calls for a period of Olympic Truce, but some countries have decided to ignore it, making life uncomfortable for the players for whom this is the golden opportunity in their lives. Players of both countries have decided to take the situation in their stride and do the best for their country and be friends on the Olympic battlefield. Once they had been team mates, both belonging to the Soviet Union. Nino Salukvadze of Georgia beat her Russian rival, Natalia Paderina by winning the bronze medal in the 10 metre air pistol shooting. She also won the hearts of the spectators by hugging her rival, something that stunned the spectators because they had not applauded the young Russian when she made it into the finals. The young woman from Georgia made a moving speech about how if politicians did not straighten out things in the world, then other people would have to take the step. A true sportsperson and in the true spirit of the game!
