Recent reports indicate that 60% of the employees working in rural BPOs are women. As a matter of fact, there are some BPO teams that are entirely made up of women. There are several reasons responsible for this gender imbalance. In many villages, women are still not allowed to leave their homes in search of a career. Secondly, more girls than boys seem to be taking their education more seriously and hence are academically qualified. Perhaps girls are aware of the challenges ahead of them and hence want to get a better start in their careers.
Comfort ZoneMany parents are more comfortable when girls work with only their own gender and hence many of the rural BPOs have all women teams. Women who are employed in these companies have a greater self esteem and confidence. The companies are also adopting flexible working hours so that women can comfortably complete their domestic duties before reporting for work.
