There are more women opting for the profession of an air traffic controller, something that only men opted for, till recently. The job is tough because it means guiding a pilot and his crew to safety in all kinds of weather. It requires determination, grit and on top of it all, the ability to withstand any kind of tension. Some of these women have to handle 40 flights an hour, which is why they get a respite every one and a half hours. It`s a tough job because one is constantly undergoing training and then it also means working in shifts. Most women who have reached there say that it would not have been possible without the support of their families.

For those who like to totally focus, this is one of the jobs they can opt for. Transfers take place every five years and for those with families, this can be hard. The pilot listens to the instruction of these lady officers because of the confidence in their voice. Confidence, in spite of the fact that you know that your one decision is responsible for the safety of so many lives. In India, there are 1,200 air traffic controllers95 of them are women!
