The BPO sector is made up primarily of women; however, the IT sector has only 15-20% of women. This becomes further reduced to a mere 6% at the top. Companies like IBM and Microsoft have decided to recruit women on a large scale. The reason for this is that companies feel that the business potential would be highly rewarding if there were more women at the top. Women would bring in a different perspective into the dynamics of the work environment and would probably have a different feedback to provide on products and technology.
Most girls shy away from technological courses because of the fear of mathematics. Companies are also resorting to a policy of Bring Women Back for those women who have taken a break from their career. Some of the recruitment drives by top companies are exclusively for women. This is good news for those who have already done their engineering. Keep your eyes and ears open for such companies because they will give women employees the opportunity to reach the top.
