Jodi Enda is president of the Journalism and Women Symposium in the US, a platform which helps bring together women journalists in the country. Her view is that anyone running for President is ambitious because it is the country's biggest post, but when Hillary ran for President, words like 'ambitious' and 'calculating' were used to describe her. These two adjectives were used in a negative way, whereas in a man they are seen to be positive. It seems a very uphill task for the American woman to become President, given the gender bias that the progressive country has!
Balancing Act
American women, and women the world over are trying to do the balancing act today between career and home, juggling with the two. But the government still has to step in with more day care facilities for women and more affordable child care. Considering that most of the powerful deciders in the world are men, progress will be slow because in many parts of the world, although working women are deemed essential, their earnings are still considered the jam and not the bread.
