Credit Card for Teens
Teens are no longer interested in just i pods and cell phones; they are not talking about pocket money or weekly allowances; what they are demanding is a credit card and some parents are meekly submitting and telling their teens about the credit limits they need to adhere to. Parents are doing this because they feel that in case of an emergency, children should have access to some funds.
Power of Credit
Intentions are good, but do teens have any idea of the kind of responsibility that is being thrust on them? Do teens really need to have so much money on them? Isn`t this kind of system teaching them that they can get what they want, without actually paying for it? Getting a credit card is so easy that parents too are tempted to apply for their wards. A debit card is a much safer option because one cannot just swipe the card for a non-existent amount in the bank. Counsellors say that parents have to think about these options before making the decision.
