There is no room for pets in apartments; pet owners do not have the time to walk and toilet train their pets. Children have no one to play with. Most children are busy attending classes upgrading their skills while others are busy studying or playing computer games. So what kind of companion can children today look forward to? Yes, the virtual pet, one that is much easier to spend time with because it does not express any outward desires.

Not a Substitute

The Tamagotchi, a digital pet, has become a worldwide success. It is housed in a small, egg-shaped computer. Like all other pets, the virtual pet needs to be fed and cleaned. There are three buttons that help the child feed, clean and play with the non-messy virtual pet. These pets develop sensitivities, depending on how you treat them. Doctors are not quite sure about the outcome of the new obsession because this means that children spend more time on the computer than with human beings!
