Psychologists are baffled at the number of young children (almost babies) coming for help. Children are stressed out and parents are unable to help! The parent wants a perfect child and in the process, there is no time for communication between child and parent because the parent is so busy focussing on the next class that the child needs to attend. A frustrated child must be listened to (and not told to shut up!) when she is giving vent to her frustration. This does not mean doing everything her way either!

Precious Time

Even if parents are talking about quality time, parents must spend at least an hour with their child, just listening to her and sharing life, without lecturing. This kind of rapport will enable the child to open up to the parent on what is causing the trouble. The close interaction will also enable the parent to read the distress signals even more quickly and help the child. If a child below six is temperamental, refuses to eat or cannot sleep well, they are signs of stress. Children over six experience all the symptoms of illness because they are afraid to face a situation. Setting goals for a child is not wrong; setting goals where there is no participation on the part of the parent or where there is no guidance is only the display of parental ambition.
