Magnetic pulses are said to ease depression by triggering small electrical charges into the brain cells. The method known as TMS or transcranial magnetic stimulation is only for patients who do not get any kind of relief from anti-depressants. How much relief patients will get is anyone's guess but researchers feel that patients will benefit from the treatment. The treatment is expensive and costs $6,000 to $10,000, depending on the duration.

Other Benefits

Researchers believe that they are on the right track and the new methodology may even help patients who have had a stroke. It is likely that research using the magnet will be done for people with other brain disorders also since the method is less invasive than most other methods. Will patients become more depressed once they see the medical bills?!
