Many Indian companies are slowly waking up to the ideas of the new generation―the generation that is convinced that early bonding between father and child can make a big difference to their child and to them. So companies are thinking of giving dads paternity leave to bond with their children. Tesco HSC has had 60 employees taking advantage of this policy this year. Employees are given five days leave during the delivery of the baby. Some companies extend this kind of leave in cases of adoption also.

Paternal Instincts

Companies understand that in today’s nuclear families, the father is compelled to contribute and they would like to encourage this feeling. Some companies have encouraged the father to work from home for about a month in order to take care of a premature baby or a sick baby. IBM gives all its employees paternal leave, irrespective of their designation, seniority, time spent in the organisation, etc. The day is not far away when men will be given more days leave to be with their bundle of joy and help their wives. This really is the X generation, isn’t it?
