The city of the IT Boom, Chandigarh, has hit an all time record of achieving the highest per capita income for the fifth year in a row. And yet, when it comes to letting out apartments or houses for single working women, it is far behind times. Many unmarried women find it a harrowing experience to locate a landlord who will let out even a room to them. Even brokers seem to be unsuccessful in this venture.

Paying Guests

People are willing to have women as paying guests but they don't want them as tenants because somehow the house owners feel that they will have to be morally responsible for their tenant. Working women say that men do not face such critical scrutiny. In fact, even unemployed men are welcomed by landlords because they feel that after all it is a man and he can take care of himself! Should companies then be thinking of safe ladies hostels for their unmarried women employees?
