The Olympics are the celebration of sports but sometimes they also become the celebration of politics and controversies. People have talked about 'fake fireworks' and of course the fake singing by the cute little girl. The girl who actually did the singing was deemed not cute enough by the Chinese Olympic officials and therefore someone else was put on stage to win the hearts of the crowd. Was the real singer told the reason behind this? In an age where we talk about fashion and beauty ripping apart people's lives, aren't the games celebrating the kind of beauty that the world has been asked to shun?
The minimum age for entry into the Olympics is 16; some of the events, like the marathon, insist on a higher age. Critics have commented that many of the Chinese girls looked far too small and in their early teens. Are we celebrating the power of the individual or the power of nations?
