Many multinational BPOs did not give a holiday for Karva Chauth but instead did the next best thing. Women who were observing the ritual were allowed to go home early and in fact were also dropped at their husband's office by car. Some offices even gave women time off to adorn their hands with henna from a henna stylist who visited their office! Multinational offices seem to be conversant with this north Indian festival and are willing to make concessions for women who want to celebrate their husbands' well-being with gusto!

Commercial Exploitation

Like all festivals, the festival is exploited commercially. The traditional mud pots or karvas today come embellished with semi-precious stones, gold and even silver! It is not just married women who celebrate the event. The metros have young unmarried girls celebrating the event late into the night with their boyfriends. These young girls are not adorned in the traditional red sari but wear spaghetti tops and tight fitting jeans! Some young married women get outfits that are as gorgeous and expensive as their wedding attire!
