Gandhi Jayanthi will be celebrated in a different, healthier way this year. The government is bringing in an indoor smoking ban from October 2 in all private establishments and spaces. The rooms designated to puffing and smoking will no longer exist! Those who want to smoke will have to go into the streets because office zones will henceforth be smoke-free. This rule will come into force in all the companies, including the IT companies, where people are known to smoke more because of the kind of work style that they have.

New Act

The new act will very soon apply to small cafes, pubs, restaurants and discotheques. Hotels with more than 30 seats will have to create a separate space for smokers and also ventilation for the purpose. Individuals not observing the rules will be fined Rs. 1000 and organisations will be fined Rs. 5000. With so much being written about the dangers of passive smoking, it is a healthy trend that the government has decided to follow.
